Qatar urges global 'courage and will' to end Israel-Gaza conflict
Qatar's foreign minister has called for "courage and will" from the international community to end the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza.
Speaking at a press conference in Doha on Saturday, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani said that the situation in Gaza was "unacceptable" and that the international community had a responsibility to protect Palestinian civilians.
"We need to see courage and will from the international community to end this conflict," he said. "We need to see a ceasefire that is respected by both sides, and we need to see a political solution that addresses the root causes of the conflict."
Al-Thani also called on the United Nations to play a more active role in resolving the conflict.
"The UN has a responsibility to protect Palestinian civilians," he said. "We need to see the UN take concrete steps to end this conflict and to ensure that Palestinian civilians are protected."
The conflict between Israel and Gaza has been ongoing for several weeks, with both sides firing rockets and missiles at each other.
The violence has killed hundreds of people, including dozens of children.
The international community has called for a ceasefire, but so far their calls have been ignored.
Qatar is one of the few countries in the region that has maintained diplomatic relations with both Israel and Palestine.
The country has also been a major provider of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
In recent weeks, Qatar has been working to mediate between Israel and Hamas, the militant group that controls Gaza.
However, so far these efforts have not been successful.
Al-Thani's call for international action comes as the conflict in Gaza continues to escalate.
The death toll is rising, and there is no sign of an end to the violence.
The international community must act now to end this conflict and prevent further bloodshed.
