Guardians Shutout Royals To Win Seventh Straight
Seven Shutout Innings From Triston McKenzie
Triston McKenzie put together a stellar outing as he tossed seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits, one walk, and striking out ten. The Guardians' offense provided just enough support as they scratched across three runs in the first inning and added two more in the sixth.
McKenzie has been one of the most consistent pitchers in the majors this season and he continued that trend on Sunday. He now has a 3.00 ERA and 10.4 strikeouts per nine innings on the season.
Guardians Offense Comes Alive Early
The Guardians got to Royals starter Kris Bubic early, scoring three runs in the first inning. Jose Ramirez led off with a single, stole second, and scored on a groundout by Amed Rosario. Myles Straw followed with a single and advanced to third on a double by Steven Kwan. Bubic then walked Oscar Mercado to load the bases and Owen Miller singled home two more.
The Guardians added two more runs in the sixth inning on a RBI groundout by Rosario and a sac fly by Kwan.
Royals Offense Struggles
The Royals offense was unable to get anything going against McKenzie. They managed just four hits and one walk while striking out 14 times.
The Royals have now lost seven straight games and have dropped to 17-20 on the season. They will look to snap their losing streak on Monday when they host the Detroit Tigers.
